Decision 08
What an exciting election year this is turning out to be! In the spirit of the season, I thought I’d show off a couple character heads I designed for a job. These guys were to be turned into 3d models for production company that makes educational videos.

Just a bird for today.
Also, I’ll be in NH and VT for the next few days, so no updates until next week! But don’t worry, I’ll be back!

I thought I’d show a little bit of the process that goes into creating my illsutrations. Here’s what went into creating the Zombie Derby piece. You can click on any of the images to see a larger version.
Here’s the initial sketch. Just a quick layout of the characters, setting and shape.
The second stage consists of me tightening everything up. Fixing a angles, anatomy, and perspective.

In the next part, I start laying out tones and shadows.

And here I start inking the piece. This part of the process probably takes up the most time. I’m a bit of a perfectionist and I tend to redo parts many times over (You might notice that I adjusted the lead girl’s foot a bit).

And once the inking is done I start on the coloring process. I’m really bad about doing color mockups before I get to this point, but luckily modern technology allows me to experiment with various color treatments relatively easily.
And after a few more hours of tweaking and re-drawing, it’s done!

new website!
I have a new website! Word Press is awesome. Thanks to Ian for helping me get started. This is so much easier than coding everything by myself!
To commemorate the event, here is a sketch of Nick Cave.
